"Who Killed My Baby"

On Saturday, April 4, 2020 Knoxville Police Officers responded to a crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue where they found Markedra Houston, 32 suffering from a gunshot wound to her leg. Houston was transported to UTMC where she was pronounced deceased from a bullet that struck an artery. Witnesses stated that they saw her vehicle coming from the south on Chestnut before crashing and that gunshots were heard from the area her vehicle was traveling from just before the 10:14 pm crash. KPD Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a confrontation that took place at a nearby residence.

Her aunt, Angela Elder, says the family just, “needs some type of closure and are definitely seeking justice for Markedra Elder.” Her family wants the world to know Houston was an awesome mother of 4 and that her kids want justice and her mother wants to know “who killed her baby.”

Houston, better known as Kee was a 2006 graduate from Austin East High School and worked at BJ’s Deli and Omar’s Market in East Knoxville. She was well known for her cooking and her love of family. Who Killed Matthew “Mack Jr” Scott?

STATUS: OPEN

During the early morning hours of Friday, July 23, 2021 UTPD officers were conducting a property check along Riverside Drive when at 4:40 a.m. they observed an unresponsive male lying next to the roadway. They stopped to render aid and discovered Matthew Scott, 34 was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The Knoxville Police Department was dispatched to begin an investigation.

Scott, better known as Mack Jr, from Kingston, South Carolina left behind 3 children, parents and siblings who have had to come to terms with losing their father, son and brother. Knoxville Police investigators are asking anyone with information surrounding Scott’s murder to come forward and share what they know, heard or saw. Do You Hold the Missing Piece of this Murder Mystery

Sometime between 4:20 am and 4:50 am on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 Carlos Sweeney, 24 was shot while in his Huntington Place apartment. Knoxville Police were responding to a 9-1-1 hang-up when they received a second call reporting a gunshot victim at 603 Longview Road. Upon arrival they found an open door leading to the apartment of Sweeney and Sweeney suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Investigators believe the shooters were caught on camera fleeing the area and are asking anyone with video along Sutherland Ave, Forest Park Blvd, Forest Hills Blvd, or Longview Rd between 4:20 and 4:50 am on June 23, 2021 to share the footage. 1-Day Shy of 25th Birthday

One-day shy of Jennifer Leann Law’s 25th birthday in 2007 she was found in an alley at Hoitt Avenue and Boone Street. Her body was partially burned and she had bruises on her face and arms, consistent with a struggle. Jennifer had spent the day before her murder at the fair with her daughter and was looking forward to celebrating her 25th birthday with her family. She leaves behind 3 daughters, a husband, mother and several siblings who struggle with losing her at such a young age.

On June 20, 2017 multiple shots were fired at Jerome “JROC” Locke while driving his Audi A6. Locke, 26 was shot by passing driver before crashing his car into a tree near the bottom of the hill on Meadow View Road in Knoxville. Locke and passenger, Danielle Harris, were taken to UTMC where Locke was pronounced deceased.

Locke leaves behind 3 sons, a mom, dad and many siblings who all say the hardest part is not knowing who killed Jerome. Locke’s aunt, Cassie Bush says, “We don’t want revenge. We don’t want nothing bad to happen to anyone else, because violence is not the answer. We just want justice.”

May 17, 2021 Shots Rang Out

On May 17, 2021 shots rang out shortly after 1 pm striking and killing Muhammad “Bazzy” Allen, 41 in his truck. Upon arrival KPD Officers found Allen inside his truck at 2710 Louise Avenue in East Knoxville suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Violent Crimes investigators believe there were witnesses, but are still waiting on someone to come forward. Allen’s mom and siblings are asking for your help in solving his murder.

Due to Senseless Violence

Adrian Harris, 33 lost his life on January 24, 2018 when he was shot in the torso along with his cousin, 27-year-old James Watts. Watts survived his life-threatening wounds, Harris did not, and their families’ are still searching for answers. Harris’ stepmother says, “These are due to senseless violence. We as a city need to do our part to help bring safety and security to our city. So our family and friends can live, laugh, love and grow old together.”

On January 24th Knoxville Police Officers responded to a call of shots fired at 2925 Selma Avenue where they found Harris and Watts having been shot. Both were rushed to UTMC where Harris was pronounced deceased and Watts was rushed into surgery. Based upon the evidence at the scene it was determined this was not a random act and a suspect vehicle was identified as a small, dark-colored sedan. Knoxville Police Seek Help as 20th Anniversary Approaches

Knoxville Police had little to go on in September 1991 and are still seeking answers to who killed Dennis Ballard. On September 2, 1991 Knoxville Police, along with an ambulance responded to a call of a white male who appeared to be ill, lying on the south side of the tennis courts under a tree off of Mulvaney Street. Upon arrival they found Dennis Ballard, deceased from a gunshot wound.

As we approach the 20th anniversary of the murder of Dennis Ballard police and his family are asking community members for help. If you have any information surrounding this incident, maybe you overheard someone talking about it or you know remember seeing or talking with Dennis that day. No information is too insignificant. On March 18, 2021 at around 5:42 pm Knoxville Police responded to a call of a shooting victim at 2908 Brooks Avenue in East Knoxville. Upon arrival officers found Wayne Humphreys, 41 unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound. KPD Investigators say a suspect was seen fleeing from the scene on a motorcycle with a child on it and are seeking any information from the community to help bring closure to Humphreys’ family and friends.

No piece of information is too small. Maybe you saw or spoke with Humphreys earlier that day or the day before, or maybe you know who was with him when he was shot, or something about the motorcycle and the riders. Searching for Answers...Searching for a Killer

Andrew “Drew” Howell Sr., 24 lost his life on April 1, 2012 and his family and Knoxville Police investigators are still searching for answers…for his killer. On March 30th Drew and Corey Bell met an unidentified person or persons driving a white Ford Mustang with out of state plates at 1705 Washington Avenue when the meeting went sour and Bell took off in his 2000 Chevy Impala. As soon as Bell took off shots began ringing out fatally striking Howell and wounding Bell.
